Self-Tape Guidance
Keep your audition simple.
We're casting your performance, not your editing skills.
Your video should:
-
Be filmed on a phone, tablet or camera.
-
Have clear sound with minimal background noise.
-
Be well lit so we can clearly see you.
-
Show you from approximately waist-up.
-
Be recorded against a plain or uncluttered background where possible.
There is absolutely no expectation for costumes, props or elaborate editing.
We simply want to see your personality, acting ability and vocal performance.
Acting
Learn the material well enough to perform naturally.
You're welcome to hold your script if needed,
but try not to rely on reading throughout your performance.
Where possible, ask someone to read the other dialogue off-camera.
If this isn't possible, simply allow natural pauses between lines.
Singing
Please perform only the audition material supplied within your chosen audition pack.
Use the rehearsal backing track provided where applicable.
Please do not sing over commercial recordings,
original cast recordings or backing tracks from other sources.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I audition for more than
one principal role?
Yes.
If you feel you're suitable for multiple roles, you're welcome to submit
auditions for more than one principal character.
There are featured roles listed
that don't have audition material.
How are these cast?
There are several featured roles.
Non-Speaking roles do not need an audition and will be cast during rehearsals.
Singing/Speaking Roles will need a self tape submission as stipulated above.
Your audition will be considered not only for the principal role you've selected, but also for any featured role that best matches your performance.
If I'm not cast in the principal role I've auditioned for, could I still be offered another role?
Absolutely.
Our casting team considers every performer across the entire production. Depending on your audition, you may be offered a featured role or another character that we feel best suits your strengths.
How are Ensemble places allocated?
Adult Ensemble performers are not required to submit a self-tape.
Instead, ensemble places will be offered through attendance at our first rehearsal on
Thursday 30th July 2026, where you'll meet the creative team
and begin rehearsing with the company.
Do I need previous stage experience?
Not at all.
We're looking for enthusiastic, committed and reliable performers who are
ready to work hard and be part of a supportive company.
Previous experience is welcomed but certainly not essential.
Will I receive feedback?
Due to the anticipated number of auditions, we're unfortunately unable
to provide individual feedback. Every submission, however, will be
carefully reviewed by the creative team before casting decisions are made.
Finally...
Auditions can feel daunting, but please don't worry about creating the "perfect" self-tape.
We want to see you—your personality, your storytelling, your musicality and your potential.
Relax, enjoy the material and let your talent shine.
We look forward to watching your audition and hope to welcome you into the
Astravaganza Entertainment family for We Will Rock You.
Break a leg!
